Nature is my inspiration

I find my inspiration in nature. My time in the studio is simply an extension of my experience communing with nature.

I’ve been walking almost every day since the pandemic started. What started out as a simple walk to get out of the house and move more has become a daily meditation. Walking in the nature preserve is now a sacred time for me. It’s my time to renew, my moment to take a breath, my time to slow down.

The walks are often simply strolls that allow me to observe the tiny details of the world around me — trees, plants, flowers, birds, water, sound, smell, light, shadow, texture, color, shapes. I take it all in, and at my own pace. I stop when I want. I walk fast when I want. I listen to what I need and follow that.

Since I walk in the same nature preserve every day I’ve had the opportunity to see nature change slowly during all four seasons. It’s magnificent to witness.

I try to capture all of this in my work. I seek to capture the mystery and the healing power of the natural world. I hope that my work spreads light, hope, love and peace.

Below is a short video that captures my discernment process that brought me to this clear understanding of my work.
