One of my favorite things to paint is commissions. I love the reactions of my clients when they see the final piece hanging in their space. It fills my heart to delight my clients with one-of-a-kind pieces that are painted just for them.

After a lifetime in the graphic design business, I know how to create art for clients. I know how to understand what my clients want and need even when they don’t know exactly what they are looking for. I’ve always been really good at giving my graphic design clients exactly what they need, and I have seamlessly transferred this skill to painting commissions. 

So, if you’re looking to have a piece painted but don’t know exactly what you need or want, don’t worry, I’ve got you. We can figure this out together.

STEP 1: Client consultation

First things first. Let’s figure out what you need. 

For folks in metro Atlanta, we’ll meet in your home, look around your space and decide together what you need. If you’re not local, we can do this on a zoom call or on a phone call. That also works well.

We’ll chat about what you’re looking for. I’ll ask you questions. Learn your family’s personality. Hear what you like, what you don’t like, what your preferences are, and what feeling you’re trying to create in your home or office.

Another part of figuring out what you need is understanding where a painting will live. I like to know the wall color, the room lighting, the feel of the space, the room colors, and the room design details. 

Sometimes I’ll even bring some of my current paintings with me to test out sizes, style and color ideas! It’s interesting to test paintings in your space, as sometimes we are surprised by which ones look amazing there!

The process will be easy for you. I’ll do the heavy lifting. I do this so that I can paint the right piece for you and your family. In the end we’ll each have a good understanding of what I’ll be painting for you. 

STEP 2: estimate & payments

Once we know what we you need, I’ll give you an estimate for the cost of the commission plus how long I’ll need to get it done. I charge by square inch and add 10% for commissions. This covers consultations, delivery and hanging.

And, when you’re ready to go, you’ll send me half of the cost upfront. The second half is due on your happy day of delivery.

STEP 3: Painting!

Now here is the fun part! I do my magic in the studio.

It takes time to work on a painting to get it just right. I work, then evaluate. Work more, then evaluate. And on and on until I finally call it done.

My goal is always to give my clients a painting they’ll love for life. My hope is that I get the piece right immediately. But if there’s something not exactly right, we’ll work together to get it right.

STEP 4: Delivery & hanging

Finally, the best part! You get your painting!

If you’re local, I’ll deliver the painting to you myself. I’ll also help you hang it. Hanging a piece at the right height can be tricky and is also super important to get right. So, I want to help you with this part, too.

If you’re not local, I’ll carefully pack and ship the painting to you. Then I’ll give you tips on hanging the painting in your space just right.

Finally you can enjoy your one-of-a-kind made-to-order piece for life! This is always my goal for the every piece I produce.
