The Hope of Spring – Oil painting

On day 3 of 100 days of painting I had a full day in my studio, so I had the luxury of using oils on canvas, and I LOVED it!

I had a vague idea in my head, so I mixed a set of colors and just let the paints land where they may. I followed my internal flow without thinking much. I just painted. Whatever came to me, I painted.

I’m actually pleasantly surprised at the outcome! I normally don’t paint abstracts, as it feels so difficult to me. It doesn’t come naturally yet. I didn’t think I was quite ready to follow my intuition without a plan. I’m much more comfortable rendering what I see around me and working with a solid, planned idea. But on day 3 I felt like pushing myself. I felt inspired, so I just painted! And, happily, a beautiful abstract manifested itself.

I’m going to continue down this vain of work for a while and see what else happens. I love painting color and shape, so let’s see where I can take this. Until next time!
