Opening yourself up to quiet observation opens up a world of possibilities!

Sometimes inspiration is found in places that are easily missed. In the potentially discarded. The quickly dismissed. The seemingly useless.

Today this was true as I was painting, for the art that I’m making. But this is also true in life. I think our culture over-celebrates loud expressiveness, big moves, and fast-paced work. For me it’s the quiet times that are the most meaningful, the most moving and the most inspirational.

As I was painting today, I picked up my cleanup cloth, happened to look down and found the answer I’d been looking for on a canvas that I’m working on. ❤️Had I been moving too fast, I would have missed it. I’m grateful for working mindfully now and slowing down my paint process, or I would have totally missed the inspiration that might make all the difference in my work.

By the way, I loved the spot so much that I cut it out, kept it and pasted it to my working wall.

I take this small observation as confirmation that I’m following a process that works for me in my art. But I also acknowledge how important this is in life. Don’t work so fast that you miss what’s right under you.
